Getting Organized is Good For Your Soul

Hello!

Spring is a time for new beginnings. The rain washes away the residual grime of winter and the dead leaves are replaced with green and color. There is a freshness in the air and a new hope for tomorrow. It only seems natural to want to bring that same freshness into our homes and work spaces.

A few weeks ago my husband finally let me into his closet.  I have been pleading with him for months to let me get in there, throw some stuff out, and get it organized. He resisted, he said it didn’t bother him, and when we finally sat down and took the 2 hours to go through it and took 3 bags to Goodwill, you could tell, he felt like a new man.

For me, a clean tidy home gives me the feeling of everything being right in my world and a clean office can mean the difference between serenity at work and total overwhelm.

I can still remember one of the first times I realized the power of clean spaces and organization.  It was back in my branch manger days.  I remember sharing with a mentor how much I had to do, the seemingly unending piles on my desk and my growing uneasiness. Her solution… put it on the floor.  “Put what on the floor?” I asked.  “All of it!” She said.  And so I did. I put everything on the floor, took the piles one at a time onto my desk, worked through each and then grabbed the next.  In no time at all not only was there nothing on my desk but I also had one mighty clean floor!

I assert that there is peace in order and there is clarity in organization.  Spring is as good of a time as any to clean out the clutter, clear out the spaces, mow down the piles, set up the filing system and get organized!

The Invitation:  Take on a space in your home or office and get that puppy immaculate! You know the place I am talking about.  The one with the piles. The one that you cannot stand to be in. The one where you keep the door closed so you do not have to look at it.  That one! To help you out, the fabulous Rungsinee Phoudad of RU Organized has put together some quick tips on how to take on your organizing project. Pick a project, set a time, throw on some music and GET ORGANIZED!

To your serenity,

Joelle

P.S. If you do not yet own a label maker, I offer that it is a must! There is nothing so satisfying as an immaculately labeled file drawer. Yum!

I am happy to be greeting Spring! Like many of us, I enjoy the seasonal changes, but something about the transition from the winter months to the summer months gives me the feeling of new possibilities and fresh starts.

Light and easy living has always appealed to me, but it can sometimes be elusive. More and more, people are looking for ways to better organize all the spaces in which they operate. These include spaces at work and at home: home offices, kids’ rooms, closets, kitchens, and garages. Cluttered spaces zap your energy. Constantly being surrounded by a sea of visual chaos creates frustration and anxiety, making you feel irritated and overwhelmed.

These feelings can be paralyzing. You might do nothing and, in fact, add to the problem. Here are a few ideas on how to get started.

1) Make a mental and time commitment to getting organized. Your space didn’t get to its current condition overnight, and it will not be organized overnight. Regularly scheduling time ensures that you will be commited to the process.

2) Pick one area in which to start. Looking at your cluttered space as a whole can be overwhelming and discouraging. Break it down into small sections, and focus on one part.

3) Be honest with yourself. Assess the items causing the clutter. If there isn’t a sound reason or purpose for why you’ve continued to hang on to an item, it’s time for it to go.

4) Hire a Professional Organizer. Calling in an expert is the most efficient and effective way to get a fresh start. Recruiting someone who can guide you through the process is money well spent to reclaim your space and your sanity.

While the task of getting organized may not sound appealing, the positive feelings that result from being organized are well worth the undertaking. Light and easy living in spirit and in your space is liberating and rewarding. So, R U Organized?
