Lucky!
A.K.A "The Splotch"
Lucky is the best cat in the world! I had been living in Arizona for one year when I realized that something was missing for me. I needed someone to come home to at the end of the day. I needed a cat! Lucky and I met at the humane society. She was one year old and as you can see, a motley mess of colors ( my husband calls her the splotch!). When I saw her in her cage, I took her out and held her in my arms, at which point she reached up and started licking my chin. It was true love! Lucky has been with me for 7 years now and she is a fuzzy messenger of love. When my husband Jeff and I were dating we lived 2000 miles apart. When he would visit, the first thing he would do was walk in and exclaim, "where is my girl?!" at which point he would lay down on the bed and Lucky would climb up on his chest and lick his chin! Oh! And she was named after a Britney Spears song of the same name, plus I was really lucky to find her and to have her in my life!
Linguine!
A.K.A Guinee
Guinee was a newer arrival to the family (see her here, caught in an intimate moment with Lucky). She has been with me for 4 years and was adopted from the Schander Family in Mesa, AZ. I had the pick of the litter and this little fuzzy one was an obvious choice, with perfect little spots on her stomach and stripes on her back. She is inquisitive and playful and a great enemy of anything with 6 or 8 legs (bugs beware!). When I brought her home she was so long all over, very "Noodley", Linguine it is!
Smokey!
Smokey has recently passed from this world but he still holds a special place in our hearts. As my husband Jeff put it best, "Smokey is the guy in high school who didn't really belong in a particular group because he got along with everybody." We miss you Smokey.
Bandit!
A.K.A. Bandeeto!
This little black and white marvel, another of my step cats and sister to Smokey, is a true character and one the neediest cats known to man! (It gives me a little perspective about how I might be a "little" annoying when I am asking my husband to kiss me for the 20th time that hour!) One of Bandit's defining characteristics is a little something I have decided to call "The changing of the mouse!" Bandit has a favorite toy mouse, and at least once a day she marches from one end of our very long hall to the other, with the mouse in her mouth, howling! In "cat" I imagine she is declaring to the world "I have a mouse! Look at me! Look at my mouse! Aren't I fabulous!". It's really cute. Except when it is 3 am (not so cute). She also has this highly effective way of getting our attention when she wants petting. She sits at the top of the bed, on the pillows and bats one or both of us on the head with her paw until either someone pets her or we retreat under the covers unaccessible to her pawed plea for attention.
Xanadu!
A.K.A Xanny
Xanadu bit my mother the first time she visited and it took me a while to warm up to the roundest of my step cats. Not only did she draw blood as a welcome gift to my mother, but Xanadu and I started our relationship fighting over who's dinner was on my plate - I said it was mine, she said it was hers!
Apparently, when my husband first brought Xanadu home as a kitten, the first thing she did was climb up on his lap and stick her head into a bowl of Hamburger Helper. From her picture, the rest as they say, is history. I tried to put her on a diet but both my husband and the vet said it was futile so today I embrace her rotund ness.
Oh yes, and in the integration of the two prides (our two families of cats) Xanadu is the troublemaker. It seems that where she was once partial to Hamburger Helper she has now acquired a taste for Linguine! ( I am waiting for Guinee to stand up for herself and set the record straight!) Beyond the biting, the terrorizing and the eating disorder, Xanadu is really a very sweet cat.
